The journey toward licensure is a rollercoaster…unlike a typical rollercoaster, it’s not fast. It’s quite the opposite. The average associate will take 4-6 years to finish their clinical training after graduate school. And sometimes the rollercoaster stops when you’re struggling to find a placement keep running into dead ends. Frustration builds up, and anxiety sinks in. You feel your heart is in the right place in helping people, but why won’t the rest of lifeline up with it? Years of graduate school, thousands of dollars, and thousands of hours of training are required just to qualify to sit for your board exams.
The focus, dedication, and resilience required to become a licensed psychotherapist is no easy feat. But don’t forget why you entered this field initially. You’re helping people transform their lives. You help people turn hope into reality. You help them believe that change is possible and guide them to make those changes. Clinical supervision is a place for supervisees to identify signature themes, confront their issues, and learn to see and to work with and through their personal selves in the context of their clinical work. Like therapy, I believe clinical supervision is a parallel process that requires safety, warmth, support, and trust. I believe that all therapists use themselves, in some aspect, within the relationship with clients to establish trust, build rapport, develop empathy, and implement interventions. Therapy – and clinical supervision – is a marriage of the technical aspects with the person providing it. Good clinical supervision is important for your success but getting it can be difficult. Even if you’re supporting clients, it may not be offered consistently (if at all). Other times, your needs are not met by your current supervisor. I am passionate about supporting the next generations of therapists. I’ve been fortunate to have had supervisors who have left a positive impression on my life and the direction of my career. They couldn’t have been more different from one another, but they were all valuable in my growth.
I am a CAMFT Approved Certified Supervisor. The CAMFT Certified Supervisor Program is a voluntary program that goes above and beyond the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) requirements for supervision and is intended to be unique to the needs of supervisors and supervisees. The year-long program is multifaceted and includes components of coursework, supervision, supervision consultation, and the completion of written consultation and case summaries.
It’s time to get the professional support you need. I offer month-to-month clinical supervision agreements or single session consultation. I also provide monthly consultation for licensed therapists in the CAMFT Certified Supervisor Program. I look forward to learning about your needs and how I can support you. If you have no idea what kind of support you need, don’t worry – I can help you identify what you’re looking for. If I can’t provide it myself, I’ll try to point you in the right direction.
